BlackBerry Z3, the Canadian smartphone manufacturer’s first budget offering, shall hit India next week, and is likely to be priced below Rs 12,000. The new Jakarta version of the phone received great response in Indonesia where it’s been selling since May 16. The phone was essentially manufactured for Indonesia where BlackBerry still enjoys popularity. India follows close, as far as the volumes are concerned. Also, Z3 is BlackBerry’s first smartphone to be produced in collaboration with Taiwan’s Foxconn, world’s largest electronics contract manufacturer.
The Z3 features a 5″ touchscreen display with a 540 x 960 qHD resolution, 16:9 aspect ratio and 24-bit color depth, and runs the latest BlackBerry 10 Operating System version 10.2.1. It has a 1.5GB RAM and 8 GB flash memory (expandable up to 32GB via microSD). Based on the Indonesian price, one can assume the actual price of the phone in India to be somewhere around 11k, but in order to recapture its lost market, it may try to entice customers with a sub-10k price tag. The z3 may also be the company’s last touchscreen handset, as BB has made its intention quite clear of resurrecting QWERTY in its future smarts. Whether to touch or to just QWERTY, shall depend on the success of this device.

The only thing that could prove to be a major hiccup with this affordable smartphone is the limited number of apps and tough competition from Android handsets. While users can always run Android apps on devices running the latest BlackBerry 10 OS version from third-party app stores. But this is not successful everytime, and BlackBerry itself is not selling this point all that much.
