Motor giants Mahindra and Mahindra have rolled out the entry-level edition of its celebrated SUV, XUV500. The new version of the car, W4 bears a price tag of Rs.10.95 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi) which is less than a lakh when compared to its elder sibling W6. As per M&M the new variant includes features based on the feedback it received from XUV500 customers. The XUV500 now will be available in four models viz. W4 FWD, W6 FWD, W8 All Wheel Drive (AWD) and W8 Front Wheel Drive (FWD).
“With over 74,000 vehicles on the road within two years of launch, the XUV500 is one of our most successful launches. As a customer centric organization, we have incorporated customer feedback at every step and evolved and today’s W4 model launch bears testimony to the same,” said Pawan Goenka Executive Director & President, Automotive & Farm Equipment Sectors at Mahindra and Mahindra.
The Brand new XUV500 W4 is powered by a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine that generates 140bhp with maximum torque of 330Nm and is mated to 6-speed transmission. The 5th Generation Variable Geometry Turbocharger helps the SUV zoom to 60kmph from rest in just 5.4 seconds. The Micro Hybrid technology incorporated helps save on fuel front as the SUV offers a mileage of 15.1kmpl (ARAI-certified).
The car has a cheetah-inspired design style. There are projector head lamps with LED lamps. Interiors are dual tone. Safety features include dual airbags, ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), crash protection with crumple zones, side impact beams and all wheel disc brakes. Other features are twin HVAC, power adjustable ORVMs, remote central locking, power and tilt steering and 6-way adjustable driver’s seat.
The company also didn’t shy away from admitting the decline in sales of the XUV500 especially during the period between January to October 2013. It hopes to get back on track by riding on the new variant’s success.
“There has been some sort of a decline in the volumes of the XUV500 this year, but we hope to catch up with the new entry-version variant W4,” said Pravin Shah, CEO, Automotive division at M&M. With the new XUV500 laden with technology and cheaper than before the auto major aims to attract buyers of sedan and compact SUVs but wish to own the XUV500, added Shah.
