TATA Motors & Samsung Collaborate For In-Car Infotainment System | Auto Expo 2014

Tata Motors and Samsung have entered into a collaboration wherein the South Korean electronic giant shall be designing in-car infotainment future systems for the Indian Auto company’s future cars as part of TATA Motors’ ConnectNext initiative. Samsung has developed an interface named Drive Link that Tata shall incorporate into its upcoming models to accommodate better smartphone integration. Tata infotainment services aim to cover the following basic requirements – multimedia (entertainment, audio/video), communication (text, call, social networking, email), navigation, internet connectivity, and of course, safety. The safety factor includes achieving all these agendas without any driver distraction, a requirement which Tata and Samsung are trying very hard to achieve. Also, the infotainment systems shall feature text-to-speech and speech-to-text convenience, which implies that all your mails, notifications and texts shall be read out to you, and you can reply/feed the same data using voice commands.

Samsung’s technology Mirror Link makes it possible for any smartphone to integrate itself with the system. The device shall even provide vehicle data, HVAC controls, service reminders and on-board diagnostics.

Tata Motors’ ConnectNext initiative has already joined hands with Harman and MapMyIndia for their infotainment systems in the recently announced Tata Bolt hatchback and Tata Zest compact sedan, and having Samsung join the team has just bettered its chances to score in the future automotive market.

Tatas should first fix/get the vehicle performance of some standards before getting into cosmetic changes . Mr Yadav should realise it is not a samsung mobile phone that one is changing every two years
